TAMPA, FL -- Butch Butcherton, host of the critically acclaimed true-crime podcast The Middletown Massacre: How I Did It, was apprehended Tuesday by police after confessing to the murder of Amy Sagan on a YouTube Livestream.

“I had been a fan of the podcast since the beginning,” says Rich Roddy, the man who phoned in the tip to the Middletown Police Department. “It was so jarring and realistic, like I was witnessing the murder through his eyes. I live down the street from Butch and I saw his commitment to the podcast. At 3 am, I’d hear him dragging heavy, rolled up carpets down his steps, and washing the fake blood off of his windows just to get in character for his show. Then, he starting saying things on the podcast like, ‘I can’t believe I’m going to get away with this,’ and I knew something was up. So, I left a five-star review on iTunes, jotted a raving review, then immediately called the Sherriff.”

Upon receiving the call, Sheriff Mike McGuinty busted into the home of Butcherton mid live stream. On the premises, McGuinty found multiple bodies, a high-quality podcast studio, and a copy of Bird By Bird by Anne Lamott.

“While I was putting Butcherton in handcuffs, he asked me if I’d like to appear as a guest on the first episode of the next season. We exchanged emails and I brought him down to the station,” says McGuinty. “He tried to say that the whole podcast was an art experiment and not an actual confession. Luckily we stored a few quotes from the podcast in evidence that paint a contrary picture:

This show is not an art experiment or some Shia LaBeouf shit; I am a murderer hosting a podcast about the murders I've committed.

Please support me on Patreon so that I can continue to murder people in real life and talk about it on my podcast.

This podcast is brought to you by Brooklinen Sheets, which have a high-quality thread count and can strangle even the strongest of victims. I know this because I’m a murderer who has strangled multiple people.

Butcherton’s lawyer has declined to comment. With life in prison imminent, Butcherton has tossed around the idea of starting a second podcast titled I Didn’t Do It ;).
