Mary Cain, dubbed a running phenom by the age of 17, signed with Nike’s Oregon Project headed by coach Alberto Salazar. She joined Nike with hopes of becoming the best in the world, but her dreams were soon shattered by an abusive coaching staff and harmful training practices. After being told to get “thinner, and thinner, and thinner,” Mary’s body began to crumble and suicidal thoughts appeared. Her is her story:
