Route 91: A Letter by Smithfield
We reached out to Smithfield, who performed at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas this past weekend, for some much needed perspective after this horrific attack. Jennifer and Trey offer these words, not only as music artists, but as human beings looking to stand strong with those affected.
"On Friday we walked on stage to perform at Route 91 Harvest Festival in Vegas and immediately felt the contagious energy from the audience. People from all over the country and the world came together to celebrate country music. The happiness, love and joy on every face we saw in the crowd is the reason we love making music.
When we awoke on Monday, safely back in Nashville, and heard the news... a flood of emotions came over us. The first was shock... how could this be real? The second was sadness for the victims, the injured and their families. The third was worry, for our friends and fellow musicians who were still at the festival. And lastly, the horror that some of those faces we saw in the crowd on Friday could have been amongst the victims.
We are devastated for the victims and their families, the injured, everyone who witnessed such a terrible act of terror firsthand, and our country. We are holding our loved ones a bit tighter tonight...
Our only hope is that this will remind us to choose joy and spread joy always. Praying for everyone affected."
